Do you think ignorance is bliss or suffering?
Personally, I think that to a large extend, ignorance is a bliss and being ignorant to the surroundings is not always a bad thing.
Ignorance is a bliss to a large extend as Charlie thought that he had friends and was not lonely before he went for the operation. He was totally ignorant to how his friends treated him before his operation and he actually thought that they were playing with him. They played cruel pranks on him like asking him to wash the toilets in front of his female colleagues. Charlie, who was totally ignorant to the whole issue, just agreed to Joe Carp and Frank Reilly and even told them that he loves to wash the toilets as it is his job and he must do it well, making Joe Carp, Frank Reilly and the other female colleagues bursting with laughter. Thinking that they were playing and laughing with him, Charlie laughed along with them.
Before the operation, Charlie also enjoyed his life and job as he was never once late or misses a day of his job except for his operation and he does his job willingly, everyday without fail. Miss Kinnian also told him that he must be proud of his job and what he does as he do it good and he is very dedicated to doing that job.
However, to certain extend, ignorance is not always a bliss as Charlie felt inferior as his IQ was low and he wanted to be as clever as his friends. Due to his low IQ, he did not know how his friends treated him and he does not know that he was the victim of the jokes every time his friends made one. Every time a joke was made by his friends and they laughed, Charlie laughed along, not knowing that they were actually laughing at him. Thus, Charlie tends to feel inferior to the others and that explains why ignorance is not also a bliss.
In conclusion, ignorance is a bliss to a large extend as Charlie was happy with his job and thought that he had friends, however, to a certain extend, ignorance is not always a bliss as he wanted to be as clever as his friends and the others in order not to feel inferior to others.
